Many
people want to know where they can find a free sewing pattern.
Here are some suggestions to help you find a free sewing pattern
(or, at least, one that is very inexpensive).
• Friends and family – if your friend or sister made
a beautiful dress, ask to borrow the pattern. This can be especially
beneficial since the person whom you are borrowing the pattern
from has already made the garment and can therefore answer questions
you might have. Make sure that this free sewing pattern is the
right size, though, before you get started.
• The attic, thrift stores, garage sales – while not
all of these places will have totally free sewing patterns, many
will have some for very low prices. Before buying anything, make
sure that all of the pieces of the pattern are in the envelope.
You can find some very retro patterns (and even some retro fabrics)
that can become excellent style statements of this decade.
• The Internet – there are actually many free sewing
patterns available online. You need only to look. Of course, most
of these free sewing patterns are for smaller projects –
dog clothes, doll clothes, etc. It can be difficult to print out
a woman-sized dressed pattern on 8 by 11 pieces of paper!
• Yourself – why not come up with your very own ideas?
Some of the very best free sewing patterns are the ones that you
create yourself. You can even take a few different older patterns
and mix and match them to create your very own, unique project
(a stuffed polar bear with a lions head and monkey’s tail,
a dress turned into a layered skirt, etc.).
